Meet Lee Gold, Founder of Peewees Hair Salon in Burgess Hill
Lee Gold, founder of Peewees Hair Salon in Burgess Hill, has travelled worldwide hosting hair shows and seminars to demonstrate and teach the latest hair designing techniques.
A former head of international training at Essanelle and Glemby (now known as Regis), Lee has had his work featured in many major consumer magazines for photo shoots, editorial and advertising purposes.
At one stage, Lee grew his salon group to seven salons but decided this was actually counterproductive to the quality and image of peewees.co.uk so decided to downsize back to one salon in Burgess Hill
“It’s not about quantity it’s about quality,” states Lee. “I have no desire to head or create a large franchise group based on the McDonald’s/ Kentucky Fried Chicken business model!”
Horsham and further afield
Lee began hairdressing aged 16… although this wasn’t his first choice of career as he wanted to be a rock guitarist or race motor bikes! Record deals and race sponsorship were not forthcoming so, to satisfy his creative needs, his mother convinced him to go for an interview at a salon – and the rest is history.
Lee quickly realised he wanted to eventually own his own salon so began gaining as much experience as possible, working his way up to Head of International Training at Essanelle and Glemby, based in Harrods and Selfridges in London. He loved teaching people how to cut and colour hair – he felt that colour was ‘make up’ for hair and ensured that he researched and specialised in all aspects of hair designing.
In 1986 Lee left London for Brighton, drawn by the Bohemian, funky vibe of the place. Lee was now in a position to start putting onto place his vision of creating a magical and exciting salon with a professional approach.
During its 35+ years, Peewees has continued to develop, investing in the latest technology, embracing social media and growing a great team of hair professionals.
Lee passionately believes in producing haircuts that do most of the work for the clients, making them feel amazing and making their life a lot easier. He says: “Each haircut must be individually designed to suit a client’s personality, lifestyle and needs. You must design hair from the inside out. Connecting with the emotion of a client and how they feel, is essential.”
What Lee’s Clients Say
Following his retirement, Lee no longer works on the salon floor looking after his clients’ hair. however, his vision for customer care and expert hairdressing still permeates all we do at Peewees. He has trained all of our stylists, helping them develop their skills to the full, so you can always be confident of receiving a friendly and highly professional hairdressing service at our Burgess Hill salon.
Here are some comments from some of Lee’s clients. They all continue to be regular visitors to Peewees, now with alternative stylists. You can expect just as special a service from the whole team here at Peewees, at all stylist levels.
“Lee has been taking care of my hair for the best part of 30 years and each visit still makes me feel very special; there is no better reason. He really does takes the time to listen and to give the right advice and I am always thrilled with the results. Lee is the ultimate professional who cares passionately about his craft and his clients and I feel extremely fortunate to be one of them.” – Chris, London.
“Just to thank Lee for such a smashing, pampering afternoon with Pee Wees -Most of all, the kind amounts of time, care and attention he gave was refreshing and made you feel like a million dollars at the end of it. He’s obviously very knowledgeable with an infectious, individual approach to hairdressing that’s especially great because it’s ‘human’ and fun and in empathising with the client, probably gets the best out of their hair.” – Julie.
“I have been visiting Lee every six weeks for the last 25 years … always 10 out of 10!” – Ellen Croydon.
“I have been a customer of peewees for 20 years. I always find the atmosphere friendly and the advice professional. I am very particular about my hair and wouldn’t go anywhere else!” – Paula, Burgess Hill.
