Show Yourself Some Love This Valentine’s Day and Beyond
Whether you love it or loathe it, Valentine’s Day is traditionally seen as the ultimate time for love and romance. Whether you are celebrating alone or with others in your bubble, at Peewees Burgess Hill hair salon, we reckon that this year we could all do with a bit of extra love.
At this stage we’re all finding lockdown tough, especially during the winter months, so self-care is vital if we are to get through with our mental and physical health intact. By looking after ourselves, we give ourselves the capacity to spread the love amongst those around us too. So, go ahead – show yourself some love this Valentines Day and beyond! Treat Yourself to a DIY Spa Day at Home
If lockdown has ruined your plans for a relaxing Valentine’s spa day, why not recreate the experience at home? Turn off the WiFi and your phone, put on some calming music and dim the lights. You could try burning a scented candle or use some essential oils with relaxing scents and make sure you have some fluffy towels to hand.
Start by dry brushing your skin to boost your circulation as well as sloughing off any dead skin cells that make your skin look dull. Then run the perfect bath, using essential oils, and enjoy some soothing me-time. While you are in the bath, it’s the ideal time to revitalise your hair with a mask. The steam from the bath will open up your skin’s pores, so apply a moisturising home-made face mask (we don’t mean the type you wear to the supermarket of course! There are plenty of recipes to try online.) Don’t forget to slather on a rich moisturiser over your whole body when you step out too and finish off with a manicure and pedicure.
Connect With Others
Lockdown loneliness has been a major challenge for so many of us. If you aren’t spending Valentines Day with your loved ones, how about booking a Galentine’s Zoom call with your girlfriends? You could watch a rom-com together or perhaps have dinner, apart but still together.
Writing a letter to an old friend can also be a great way to connect. Who doesn’t love to receive a letter through the post these days, rather than just more emails? If you are struggling with loneliness, there are tips from the NHS here.
Make a List
As we’re celebrating self-care, it makes sense to think about all the things we love about ourselves! Grab a notebook and make a list of all the things you’d might compliment a friend on, and then extend these compliments to yourself. You could think about your strengths, accomplishments and kindness for example.
Take time to try to quieten the negative inner voice we all have within ourselves.
Get Out and About in Nature
It’s easy to feel stressed and overwhelmed during the pandemic, but one easy way to make ourselves feel better is to get out and about in nature. Scientific research has proven that spending time in green spaces can improve both our mental and physical health, lowering stress levels and reducing the symptoms of depression. It’s also been shown that trees emit chemicals that can boost our immune systems!
At Peewees we’re lucky that our salon is within easy reach of the West Sussex countryside, but wherever you live, try and find some green space to enjoy.
Nourish Your Body With Whole Foods
We know it’s so easy in lockdown to binge on junk food, but a well-balanced diet is critical to keep you fit, both physically and mentally. It’s said that our hair is the crown we never take off, so let’s start treating it that way! There’s nothing so demoralising as catching sight of ourselves with lank and uncared for locks. Even if we aren’t able to go out and socialise at the moment, let’s show ourselves and our hair some love!
